South Holston Fishing Trip - September 23, 24, 25 & 26

We had a really great time.  The fishing was excellent, food was super and the fellowship was great. The drinks were also mighty fine!  Dover was an excellent guide, host and cook.  Jack Ward and Dick Vipperman also were excellent cooks and kept the whole bunch feed.   Dover taught us all the secrets of fishing the SH and spent time with each of us on casting, rigging and how to fish the river.  I learned a great deal from his expertise.  Those who attended were: Dover England, Jack Ward, Dick Vipperman, Ron Herring, George Kesler (also known as big orange), Ron Nemura, Joe Nawrocki, Jon Wilson, Chip Davis, Lane Hudson, Tom Brown, and Mike Lewis.  Hope I didn't leave anyone out?  We are in the planning stage for another trip soon.  Keep an eye out for upcoming trips.  If anyone has pictures and more story please email to me so I can post them.  Thanks, Jon  Click here for pictures

PICNIC AT WYSOR'S - July 16, 2005

The July meeting was held on Saturday, July 16 at Wysor Smith's foothills retreat.  The weather cooperated (mostly), the fish did their part, the barbecue was fantastic, and Wysor was once again the superlative host.  This meeting was an experiment in that it was held on Saturday in an attempt to create a larger turnout.  The experiment was only partially successful in that the attendance of TU members and their families was relatively low.  But, a great time was had by those attending.  The Chapter owes Wysor Smith a huge "thank you" for his continuing efforts on the behalf of the Chapter.  For pictures, click here.

SPRING FISHING/CAMPING TRIP - May 7-8, 2005

This trip was planned for an area near Damascus, Va.  Good camping spaces were supposedly available in the area or reservations could be made at any of several motels in Abington which is approximately 30 minutes away.  The Virginia Creeper Trail runs parallel to one of the streams, providing easy access, especially if you bring a bike.  Mountain biking is very popular in the area, with level or minimal grades.

Due to the lack of water-related services at the campground, this activity turned into a day trip.  The people who went on the trip put in a lot of walking and had fair results.  Here's hoping the next camping effort will not be influenced by a park employee forgetting to turn off the water over the winter - broken plumbing is a natural consequence.

ELK RIVER FISHING TRIP - JUNE 3-5, 2005

This trip was to the Elk River Touring Center in West Virginia.  The cost was $240/person, which included 2 nights of comfortable lodging, dinner on Friday and Saturday, Breakfast on Saturday and Sunday, and Box lunches for Saturday and Sunday.  Tom Brown insists that the food is outstanding, a point that was echoed by the people who went.  Non-fishing spouses were $199.  Attractions nearby include Snowshoe Resort and the Cass Scenic Railroad.  Mountain Biking is a popular local activity.

This trip was actually overbooked, attesting to its popularity.  Once again, the participants came back with great comments and an eagerness to "do it again next year".  It appears that we are establishing an annual tradition.
