| MEETING AGENDA 2013 Meetings Meeting - March 20, 2013 Meeting - Roanoke Chapter Trout Unlimited Members and Friends, Just a reminder that our regular monthly meeting will be this Wednesday March 20th at 7:00 at the Moody Student Center at Hollins University. Our speaker this month will be our own Robert Marek sharing photos and a few fishing stories from a fishing trip to Alaska. We’ll also have our usual business meeting after Robert’s presentation and we’ll be holding an election for the office of President and Secretary. - February 20, 2013 - Our regular February meeting will be
on February 20th at the Moody Student Center at Hollins University at 7:00
PM. I hope everyone can attend!! · We will be holding an election for a couple of the open officer positions during the business portion of the evening. · Our
guest speaker for the evening will be Josh Williams. Josh is a Vet who lost his
right arm. He is involved with Project Healing Waters and was the lead for PHW
locally at one time. He also has designed several flies that are sold by Orvis.
Josh will be speaking about Project Healing Waters and about his flies. Please

also discuss our regular ongoing projects as well as see if anyone has any
fishing stories to tell. We look forward to seeing you there!!! 2012 MEETINGS Meeting - November 14, 2012- Our annual meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at Hollins University - Moody Student Center - Goodwin Room - 1st floor We will meet at our usual time of 7:00pm. ANNUAL MEETING: We have a few business items that we need to take care of at this meeting which includes the election of officers, a financial report and planning for the riparian tree planting on Glade Creek in December. We should be able to move thru these items quickly. Raffle - Major Items Our annual raffle will be held at this meeting. We have some great items and fishing trips on the raffle this year. Thanks again to our sponsors: Orvis, Natural Retreats/Meadow Lane Lodge, Riverbound X-Stream and Sportsmans Warehouse. If you cannot make the meeting please submit your entries by mail. You do not have to be present to win. Raffle - Dollar Items We will again hold a $1.00 raffle. If you have any items you would like to donate to the chapter, please bring them for the $1.00 raffle. Items such as: flies, books, fishing tools and gadgets, fly boxes, fly tying tools. If you are a tyer - tie up some of your favorite flies. I have 15 DGIF 2013 calendars to give away plus some duck prints. The Dollar raffle is always a lot of fun. Come out and support this important event for your Chapter. Hope to see you on the 14th. Members October 17, 2012 Meeting - Hollins University - Moody Student Center - Goodwin Room - 1st Floor. We will have a presentation by Chad Rowe and Jonathan Lancaster. Chad and Jonathan represent Natural Retreats. Natural Retreats manages Meadow Lane Lodge in Bath County. They also manage other fly fishing properties around the country and outside the country. Natural Retreats/Meadow Lane Lodge has been one of our major sponsors for our annual raffle for several years. Jonathan was a guide on the South Fork of the Snake River for 14 years. 19, 2012 Meeting - Hello Roanoke TU Members it has been a
long hot summer. Time to refocus on some great fall trout fishing. We have a
regularly scheduled meeting set for the Roanoke TU Chapter on Wednesday,
September 19, 2012 at 7:00pm at Hollins University - Moody Student Center -
Goodwin Room on 1st Floor. The program for the September meeting will
include a presentation by Matt Miles. Matt is a guide from Lynchburg. After
guiding in Colorado for many years, Matt has returned to Virginia to guide on
his home waters. He currently guides on the Jackson, James, New, Maury and
Roanoke/Staunton. Matt has a passion for fly fishing and is a fly designer for
Umpqua. Come out to hear Matt and get inspired for some fall fishing. We

Roanoke Valley TU Members: Hope everyone
is enjoying some good springtime fishing! We
have a regularly scheduled Roanoke Valley TU meeting set for Wednesday, May 16th
at 7:00pm at Hollins University Moody Student Center - Goodwin Room on 1st
Floor. Have you ever caught a Roanoke Log Perch?? Have you ever seen a
Roanoke Log Perch? It is not a trout but due to its Endangered Species Status,
it is important to us. James Roberts, a doctoral candidate at Virginia Tech, has
done extensive study of this creature and will give us an interesting overview
of his study. April
18, 2011 Meeting
- A
regularly scheduled Roanoke TU meeting is set for Wednesday April 18th at 7:00pm
at Hollins University - Moody Student Center Goodwin Room on 1st Floor. We
have two speakers for the April meeting: Shannon Smith, Protection Officer
from Botetourt County. Shannon will give us an update on the recent
legislative session in Richmond. Shannon is also the organizer for the
Kids Fishing Event held in Buchanan each year. Roanoke TU has participated
in this kids event for a number of years and will participate this year.
Dargan Cogeshall - Virginia Rivers Defense Fund March 21, 2012 - A regularly scheduled Roanoke Valley TU meeting is set for: Wednesday, March 21, 2012 7:00pm Hollins University - Moody Student Center - Goodwin Room - 1st Floor Program: DGIF Steelhead Stocking Program for the Upper Jackson. Stephen Reeser with DGIF will give us an overview of the state's steelhead stocking program. Steelhead fishing has been a serious sport in the Great Lakes region for a number of years. Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and New York have significant stocking programs. Come out to hear how this program may impact fishing in the upper Jackson River. Bill Bainter, President Roanoke Valley Trout Unlimited January 18, 2012 - Hi Folks - Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. Roanoke TU Meeting - January 18, 2012 We have a Roanoke Valley TU meeting scheduled for Wednesday, January 18th at Hollins University. We will meet in the Moody Student Center in the Goodwin Room at 7:00pm. Presentation - Our speaker for the evening will be Dan Gracia. Dan is a member of Roanoke TU and has been employed by Orvis for 25 years. For about 10 years Dan taught and coordinated Orvis's Fly Fishing Schools on the West Coast. Dan has also taught Fly Fishing Schools up in Manchester and locally at Hot Springs. Dan has worked for Orvis in various other roles including managing the Rod and Tackle department. Dan has an extensive knowledge of fly fishing. His topic for the evening will be Strategies and Techniques for fishing Spring Creeks. Chapter Two Fly Event - February 4, 2012 We will attempt our first Two Fly Event for the Chapter on February 4, 2012. This event will be held in the Delayed Harvest Sections at Green Hill Park and the Colorado Street Section. There will be a $20.00 entry fee per team with all proceeds going to the chapter. The rules for this event along with an entry form will be posted to our web site soon. Find a partner, dig out your long johns and lets have some fun with this event. Raffle Tickets By now you should have received Raffle Tickets in the mail for our 2012 Raffle. This is our primary fund raiser for the year and I hope that all of you will support this initiative. We have a number of great items sponsored by Orvis. Prizes also include a custom fly box by Hans Loberg, a stay at Meadow Lane Lodge, a guided fishing trip on the South Holston and a set of golf clubs in case you get tired for fishing. The drawings for the raffle will be held at the February 15th meeting. Additional tickets will be available at the January and February meeting. You do not have to be present to win. Stay tuned for more details about the raffle. Volunteer Opportunities We have a need for a Secretary and a Membership Chairman. If you have an interest in serving in either of these roles, please give me a call. Thanks for your continued support.
