I learned about River Bend Farm from Walt Cary and one of the fellows from the Shenandoah Valley Chapter on Saturday at Gander Mountain. They said we really need to try this place. From what they told me sounds like it is stocked with a lot of quality fish. They told me to call Mossy Creek Fly Shop to book a trip.I called and spoke to Ryan. I had him book us a trip for the first available dates he had which are Friday June 27th and Saturday June 28th. The rate is $60 per person per day, but if we get 10 per day to sign up it is $30 per person per day. They do not allow fishing on Sundays. I think it must be owned by Mennonites. If anyone wants to stay over night they allow camping on the property. They do have a portapoty and that is all. Or I'm sure there are motels near by if anyone had rather stay in a motel. If anyone wants to check it out the can go to www.mossycreekflyshop.com and click on private waters and select River Bend Farm. There is a link to pictures at the bottom of the page. River Bend Farm is located on approximately 2 miles of North River. This unique stretch is one of the largest trout fisheries in the state. The waters here are fed by spring seeps through its limestone bedrock as well as the waters from Mossy, Spring, and Beaver Creeks. Dry River, one of Virginia’s finest brook trout fisheries, runs into the North just downstream of farms property. This large stretch boasts some incredible insect hatches of drakes, caddis, hendricksons, blue wing olives, and giant eastern stoneflies. Wayne Showalter has been generous enough to open this beautiful piece of trout water to the public. This property is a fly fishing, catch and release, barbless hook fishery. River Bend Farms is open for fishing Monday-Saturday. Free overnight camping may be arranged with prior notice. Rod Fee- $60 a day per person. Rods are booked on a first come first serve basis. Groups of 3 or more will be guaranteed to have the stream to themselves. Individual anglers may be booked with 1 to 2 other anglers at River Bend Farm. Below please find those who have signed up. Email Jon to have your name added!

Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) Worth mentioning at
next meeting and maybe putting a notice on the website and newsletter?
Read about the disease when perusing the Vermont Fish & Game website to
check on out-of-state license costs. Headed to Vermont in late June for a class
reunion and though I might have a chance to fish a day or two. This sounds
terrible and can be spread probably the same way that the "Didymo" is
around here now and through infected fish and contaminated water. Says it's in
27 species up there including brown and rainbow trout. No
known cure. Anybody contemplating at trip to upstate NY, Wisconsin,
Michigan or anywhere near the Great Lakes ought to be aware of what's there now.
Dick Taylor In 2005,
a new fish disease known as Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia (VHS) was discovered in
Lake Ontario, after a fish kill involving thousands of freshwater drum, round
goby, and muskies. In just two short years between the spring of 2005 and the
fall of 2007, the VHS virus spread rapidly to the St. Lawrence River, Lake Erie,
the Niagara River, Lake St. Clair, the Detroit River, Lake Huron, and Lake
Michigan. It has also spread to several inland waters (waters without any direct
connection to the Great Lakes) in Wisconsin, Michigan, and New York. Dozens of
fish mortality events have now occurred in these areas resulting in the deaths
of tens of thousands of fish. Unfortunately, there is no vaccination or cure for
the disease, thus it cannot be controlled - only contained. Containing the
spread of this deadly fish virus and preventing it from entering Vermont will
require restrictions on the movement of live fish and water, and fish testing
and surveillance programs. Go to website and check it out at: http://www.vtfishandwildlife.com/vhs.cfm Check out our new Calendar of Events From the link you can view up coming events and meetings. As a member you will be able to update calendar. More information will be emailed out to the members on this feature.
