Spring Clean Up - Clean valley Day - Saturday, April 5, 2008, 9:00am,Roanoke River and river bank, Green Hill Park.
TU Clean Up of Roanoke River and river banks at Green Hill Park, April 5, 2008
Again we had a great turnout and the clean up went very well. We collected a considerable amount of trash even though the park did not look too bad to begin with. With help from at least two other teams the park and river banks have probably not been as clean in years.
Anke and Hans had noticed an unusual amount of trash on the opposite bank at the upper end and drove up behind the Kroger center and talked to the farmer leasing the land there and got his permission to clean up the river banks. He said several trash bags with cans had blown away during the storm we had some time ago, but he had not had time to clean it up yet. Three full bags of cans, bottles and plastic bags were collected and brought back to the trash bins at Green Hill Park.
In the afternoon Anke and Hans stopped by at the Salem section and put up more regulation signs. All the English version signs had been torn down and were replaced. Still more English signs are needed.
From the piles of trash bags still lining Riverside road it was obvious that the Orvis team had done a great job cleaning up this section. The TU volunteers this time were- Bill Bainter, Dick Cole, Lane Hudson, Anke Loberg, Hans Loberg, Robert Marek, Joe Navrocki, Lloyd Parcell, Dick Vipperman, Jack Ward, Jon Wilson.
Special thank you to Hans and Anke for the coffee, donuts and the delicious muffins. Scroll down for pictures.
