TERRY TSUBODA'S MAY FLY

FAVORITE FLY

Inspired by an article in one of the magazines last year, I have been tying this fly since then and it has been one of my favorites on the streams

The one in the picture was done in darker color but you can mix and match any material/color to imitate many different types of may flies. I used a swimming nymph hook (these hooks are long so if you want size 14, use size 16 hook,) peacock herls for the thorax and a stripped peacock herl for the abdomen.  Tie a small post underside so that you can tie an upside down parachute hackle to imitate the legs.  I used two pieces of partridge feather to make the wings. Cut the wings into a shape after they are tied. (Note: Do not make the wings too big or the fly will spin when cast.)

When you cast it, it will always right it self so that it will land right side up. It is amazingly lifelike when you see it floating on the water with its legs and abdomen supported by the surface tension.
