October 17, 2007 Meeting

The pre-meeting was started off with smoked salmon, crackers, chips and water.   Dover brought the salmon, his secret dill sauce and smoke salmon spread.  George Kesler provided the bottled water.  The meeting was called to order by President Dover England at 7:00 p.m.  He welcomed visitors, new members and several others who have not attended in a while.  The meeting was again well attended with an estimated 30 to 40 members present.

Bayes Wilson presented the 2008 Officer Nominations for our election of members at our November 2007 meeting.  Those nominated are: Dover England, President (2nd Term), Jack Ward, Vice President, Chip Davis, Secretary and David Wilson, Treasurer.  Dover also asked that anyone else that would like to run for an office to please attend the November meeting.

Bill Tanger, Friends of Roanoke River presented his resolution for the removal of the sewer line at Wasena Park in Roanoke.  The members of Chapter 308 passed a resolution to support the project with slight modifications to the resolution.

David Wilson presented the Treasurers report and reported that the raffle to date had raised $5103.00.    David Wilson also requested that all members keep track of their volunteer work, stocking, special meetings, etc.... so that he can provide the information to National TU.  A report log was provided at the meeting.

Dick Vipperman gave an update on the Fall Roanoke River clean up at Green Hill Park to coincide with the expanded Clean Valley activity, Fall Waterway Clean Up 2007, on Saturday, October 6 at 9:00 am.  He recognized Hans and Anke Loberg for their dedicated efforts to see that all details were taken care of.

Jon Wilson gave a report on the chapter sponsored fishing trip to the South Holston River in September.  Another trip is planned for the end of November to the South Holston and a trip is planned for March 14 and 15 to Meadow Lane Lodge on the Jackson River.  Contact Jon Wilson for more details.

Dr. Morgan Wilson gave a report on the fish in Carvins Creek.  He said despite the low water and extreme temperatures the fish are doing just fine.  He did report that there had been some pouching on the stream probably as a result of the article in the Roanoke Times.

The raffle was presented by George and Dover.  They both did an excellent job and made the evening an enjoyable time.  A big thank you to George Kesler for his outstanding job putting the raffle together.  Also please thank the many businesses that donate items to make a raffle successful.

The winners of the raffle are:
