March 19, 2008 Meeting

Andre Horodysky and Dr. Robert Jenkins willl present on “Roanoke Regional Trout Bugs, Natural and Tyed”

Thank you to Mr. Lane Hudson for taking the minutes and report on the meeting in my absence!!

Dover opened the meeting with Fishing reports.

Dick Taylor reported a 10LB Brown catch in the Roanoke River near the Apperson   Rd. Bridge .

Lane Hudson reported on the Meadow Lane fishing trip.  Excellent accommodations, excellent fellowship, as well as, excellent fishing.   Everyone caught several fish.

 

Two gentleman spoke on local fishing attractions.

 

   Josh Duncan presented Potts Creek Outfitters, pottscreekoutfitters.com, and The Depot Lodge, thedepotlodge.com, in Paint Bank VA.  Daily Rod fees at $75.

 

   David presented on the Barber’s Creek Fishin Club.  Looking for 5 more members.  $695 per year and your allowed one guest per day for $20.  For $200 more, you will also have rights to the private Potts Creek area owned by Potts Creek Outfitters for a reduced rod fee of $50 per day. 

 

SignUps:

 

            Dick Vipperman reported again on Kiwanis Kids Day and asked for volunteers to help.

 

            Han’s reported on Clean Up Day and asked for volunteers.

 

            Dover offered a free fly tying class and asked for signups.

 

  Dover asked Jamie for closure on the “Trout in the Classroom” project.  There will be an Outdoor session April 26th. 

 

Morgan reported on Carvins Creek.  Seems to have been an Alga Bloom that may hurt the environment.  Dover reported that the Game Commission is ready to go, when and if we decide to stock again.  Alga Bloom may have a bearing on habitat.

 

Orvis is planning a conservation day in April.  Details to come at next meeting.

 

Stewardship Va, proclaimed by Gov. Kaine, will be from Apr 1- May 31

 

Presentation by Dr. Bob Jenkins on Roanoke Area Flies.  Very good presentation.  Bob asked that if anyone finds bugs, to save them for him.  He will supply bottles and alcohol if needed.  Jenkins@roanoke.edu

 

Ron Herring reported on the TU national committee.  He asked that the delegates be posted on the website.
