May 21, 2008 - Monthly Meeting

Meeting was called to order by Vice President, Jack Ward.

He introduced the guest speakers and guest.

Marvin and Bill gave an update on the Gathright project.  Bill commended Marvin for his hard work on contacting and completing the necessary documents.  Committee completed the public comments by the cut off date.  All documents pertaining to project are posted on our website here Gathright Project for your review.  The next step is a review of comments and decide if further requirements will be required of applicant.

Guest Speakers and program by Ned Yost, Catawba Land Care, Christy Gabbard, LandCare Coordinator, Conservation Management Institute, Virginia Tech.  For complete details and copies of handouts that were at the meeting please follow this link where you will find links to the pdf files.

   *Request that Roanoke TU adopt 1.3 miles of Catawba Creek which runs through the Catawba Farm owned by the State of Virginia and is managed by Virginia Tech.

   *Adopt to care for and restoration of creek.  Vision is seen by group that it could become a private managed seasonal fishery for Roanoke TU and used as a teaching tool for cold water restoration and projects, to teach fly fishing to children, Project Healing Waters Flyfishing Program and numerous other projects including cancer survivor retreats and etc....

   *Seasonal fishery from October through June.

   *Members are invited to visit and tour property on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 10 a.m. where Ned Yost will host and explain in details the proposed project.

Other meeting details:

Pat Klingensmith put on an awesome fishing video presentation of his fishing trip to British Columbia last year.  Thanks Pat for the presentation and details of your trip!!!

Annual Chapter Picnic:  We have tentatively set the picnic date for Saturday, July 19, 2008.
