Wednesday, May 16, 2007 Meeting and Pictures

The meeting was opened by Dover at 7:05 p.m.   Hans and Anke gave a report on the meeting at Hungry Mother State Park.  The meeting was concerning the Back the Brookie program.

Dover presented Bayes Wilson with the Presidents Award for his hard work and dedication to the chapter.

Dick Vipperman gave a report on the Kiwanis fishing with the children in April.  Click here for details.

We had new guest and hopefully new members, Devin Monroe and Josh Williams and his little brother.

Josh Williams is an Iraqi War Veteran and lost his right arm in an accident.  He participated in the Healing Waters program for injured veterans.  Our chapter plans to help him in any way we can.

Tom Brown gave a report on the Outdoor Writers of American Convention to be held in Roanoke in June.  He would like to see the chapter to have a hospitality booth and get involved with demonstrations to be held at Green Hill Park.  Call Tom at Orvis downtown for more details.  Volunteers needed.  He also discussed the Orvis sponsored trip to Spotted Horse Ranch just outside of Jackson Hole, WY the Monday following Labor Day.  Call Tom for more details.

Game Warden Shannon Smith gave a report on the Botetourt Children's Fishing Carnival to be held on June 2, 2007 at the Buchanan Fairgrounds.  They will have several contest and prizes for the children.  Volunteers are needed for fly fishing as well as other areas.  Call officer Smith at 580-3999.   He also gave a report about a fish kill starting on the Cowpasture down to the James River to Buchanan.  It is very similar to the Shenandoah River fish kill.  More to come on this.

Bill Tanger request that our local chapter write a letter of support regarding river access and crossing of CSX Railways.  Dover will follow up on this matter.

Dick Taylor, Hans Loberg and an Orvis employee had a fly tying seminar during the meeting.

A reading the water program will be presented by Dover on Thursday, May 24, 2007 at 4:30 p.m. at Green Hill Park.  Jon will email everyone to remind them of the event.

The meeting concluded with a raffle of several items donated by Dick Taylor and Dover England as well as the many flies that were tied during the meeting.
