Buchanan Kids Fishing Rodeo - Saturday, June 6, 2009

We had a great day. TU folks there were: Jack Ward, Bill Bainter, Anka Loberg, Hans Loberg, Dover England, Bob Crawshaw, Ron Herring and Dick Taylor.

Our giveaway prizes consisted of a complete fly fishing outfit of rod, reel, line, backing and some flies by, I think, Scientific Anglers, another outfit from Orvis and a box of flies. We registered about 70 kids for the prizes and to try their hand at casting with assistance by our folks. They aimed at three hoola hoops and had to use some "Kentucky windage" on occasion. I think the youngest was about 2 1/2 up to about 15. Separated the registrants into two age groups for the fly outfits from 2 1/2 to about 9 and 10 to 15. Then, after the two outfit drawings all the rest of the names were put into the jar and we had a drawing for a box of flies. I think either all or two of the drawings were won by young ladies.

All of the photo subjects were pretty good except the tries at some underwater shots of the trout in the two pools they had set up for the kids. Forgot to use the Underwater setting on the camera. Did get one murky looking shot though. Believe the best one of the day was a little girl about 3-4 years old. She is standing at the tying table, not much higher then it, with her arms crossed and her head resting on her arms and has such an expression on her face that it's guaranteed to make you laugh. Check it out in the photos as you'll have no trouble picking her out. Next best was probably a wee one casting and the age was probably in the 2 1/2 to 3 range. Has a good grip on the rod though all by her self.
