Celebrate Catawba - Saturday 8-13-2011

Had a good turnout of our folks; but, the people visiting the event and our tent were a mite on the light side. Great weather for it and not too hot. Hope I don't miss anybody but the TU folks there were: Bill Bainter, Jack Ward, Bob Crawshaw, Roger DeLapp, Ken Yopp, David Vecellio, Anke & Hans Loberg and moi. Bill & Jack already had the tent up when a few of us got there, which in itself is a miracle if you've ever tried to put that thing up with only two folks! Bob had his usual great rapport while tying flies especially with the kids. In case you're wondering why one of the two little girls in the pink t-shirts was holding her nose it was because Bob was trimming a deer hair fly and the little pieces were flying all over in the wind and getting up some noses! Several folks, adults and kids alike, tried their hand at fly casting and a few wee ones had their fun throwing the frisbee targets around and trying out the hula hoop targets the convential way. Finally had to retire the three poster boards we had up, especially the two on the tripod easels, when the wind came up pretty strong the last hour or so. A change this year was about a dozen vendor tents set up at the front of the old school building up near the road. The purchase of some great tasting home grown 'maters and some Catawba honey made for a goodly breakfast treat this morn along with an omlet and toast- YUM!!!  Dick Taylor Dick
