Friday, March 9, 2007 Hollins University Had a pretty good turn out with about 10-12 TU
members and Dr. Morgan Wilson of Hollins along with another professor; but,
sorry I didn't get his name. We walked the stream from the parking lot back
about a quarter mile towards Rt. 11, then. went back upstream to the I-81
entrance where it comes under the Interstate. Probably covered a little over a
mile of stream. A couple of intrepid souls walked on the big pipe along side the
stream that goes under the Interstate and went to look at the land on the upper
end. They were smart and came back via a pass under the Interstate a short ways
north of the stream entrance. The other side of the Interstate has some cows
there; so, that makes the water quality questionable till it's tested. Dover
tested the temperature down by the parking lot at 48° and I tested it up near
the Interstate at 46°. Believe that there will be a grant form sent to TU
for maybe $30,000.00 within the next two weeks if this project is feasible and
approved by the College etc. Prof. Wilson is going to set up a meeting with the
College President to discuss the project sometime next week. Have to do it fast
cause we only have two weeks to get the application in for the grant.
